Welcome to My 30 Day Photo Project

Hello and welcome to my brand new photography blog. My name is James and I call myself a photographer, but I've been failing miserably at that. I haven't been taking photos like I should for the past couple of years and I want to change that; starting now.

I decided the best way to reignite my passion for taking photos would be to challenge myself to take and post at least one photo a day for 30 days. I know this is isn't a new concept and I heard about it a few years ago from photographer, Lisa Bettany. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how much of an impact this could have on my skills as well. It's a good way to practice the basics of photography like composition, lighting, exposure, etc.. This may also help me develop my own sense of style; something I was never really able to do.

Just to give you a little background history, I graduated in 2012 from a small private university in South Georgia with a BA in film. While I was there, I took digital photography and immediately fell in love with it. This was around the time DSLR filmmaking was becoming popular so, I bought myself a Canon 60D for film school and I naturally was curious about taking photos as well. Not knowing much about how to make a good photo, taking a class was a no-brainer.

Fast forward to 2014, I wasn't taking photography seriously anymore because I couldn't figure out how to make money with it and my passion for the medium was slowly dying. That year I sold my camera, but there was something inside me that kept nagging me and I new I made a huge mistake. It wasn't until 2017 that I was finally able to get a new camera, albeit an entry level mirrorless offering from Canon, the M3. I primarily purchased the camera because it was perfect for vlogging and creating video, but as soon as I held it in my hands, I knew I wanted to take photos again.

During the last year I took some photos here and there, but never actually went full force so this month I decided it was time. I was going to post a new photo every day for 30 days and call it James Has a Camera. So, welcome to my new photography project and I hope you come along with me. Take and post a new photo on Instagram and use #JHAC30. I'll be following that hashtag so I can see all the work you're posting. In addition to posting my new photos here on the blog, I'll be posting them on my Instagram account as well; @jameshasacamera. Well, what are you waiting for? Let's get started!
